What We Do...............Youth Ministry

The Archdiocese of Glasgow traces its Youth Ministry work back to the 1940's with the founding of the Catholic Youth Council. Over the intervening years we have worked with many, many thousands of young people in a variety of local, Scottish and international projects. Although the methods and approaches have evolved, as the Church and the world have changed, the central goal has always been to enable young people to encounter the living loving God and to respond generously to the call of Jesus Christ.

We support parish youth ministry by providing training and formation for parish leaders an opportunities for young people to experience the Church beyond their local parish. This work can be with any range of young people from 12 to 30.

We meet with young people aged 12-17 in their school settings, through a variety of lower/upper school retreats, visits and inputs.

We engage young adults aged 18-30 in a variety of ways: through higher education chaplaincies, direct contact in parishes, via newsletters, email bulletins and website. Also, some diocesan activities are hosted at our Youth Pastoral Centre in Govanhill, Glasgow.

We work to support the faith development of young people in the Archdiocese of Glasgow. This involved working directly with young people in schools and parishes, but also with others in the community who have a role in the lives of young people (e.g., parents, teachers, parish clergy, religious and lay people.)
